Information: USB Keys are no longer available but some legacy users have yet to transition

Symptoms

Since installing the Windows 10 April 2018 update and when using a Sentinel RMS USB Key and launching the Tekla Tedds Application or Tekla Tedds for Word the application fails to launch.

Cause

The problem is occurring because of a change in Windows 10 April 2018 Update which stops the Sentinel RMS system from querying the USB keys correctly. Most applications are not affected because most of the Tekla applications effectively run in Windows Vista compatibility mode even on Windows 10, therefore the April 2018 update does not affect the applications behavior.

The Tedds.exe and Winword.exe (the host process for Tedds for Word) explicitly declare via their embedded manifest files that they are compatible with Windows 10 and therefore do not run in a legacy compatibility mode. Both applications do this because they need to know they are executing on Windows 10 and/or are using Windows 10 specific features.

Fix

Apply Tekla Structural License Service update - June 2018
