Why is the shear capacity of a steel member higher in the minor axis?

Question: Why is the shear capacity of a steel member higher in the minor axis? I have only applied a point load in the middle of a simply supported beam ("I" section) member and find that the shear capacity is higher in the minor axis than it is in the major axis. Why is that the case? Answer: The reason the shear capacity is higher in the minor axis for some members is due to the calculated shear area (Av). Answer The Moment resistance for a Hollow reinforced retaining wall is calculated as the lesser of Asr,prov x fyd x z , where Asr,prov is the reinforcement provided to the wall, fyd is the Design yield strength And; 0.3 x fd x d2 , where fd is the design compressive strength of the masonry and d is the depth to the tension reinforcement. This would indicate that increasing the reinforcement should increase the moment resistance in the wall for the first term.

Question When I attempt to run the Tedds Batch Design calculation and then switch to another program i.e. email client to work on something else, Tedds keep taking the windows focus so I cannot do anything else. How do I prevent this from happening? Answer Within Tedds for Word, you can access the Tedds ribbon tab > More > Tedds Options    Within Tedds Options, you can then turn off the Progress log window by setting the Calculating > Progress to None, so that the Progress log does not take the focus at the end of every batch design iteration.
