Is there a difference between the main bars and the additional bars in the beam "RC 2D Analysis and Design calculation"?

Question Is there a difference between the main bars and the additional bars in the beam "RC 2D Analysis and Design calculation"? Answer The bottom reinforcement for the central zone of the beam is taken from the bottom bars in the first zone. This then cannot be edited for the central span, ie. if 2 x H16 are specified for the bottom bars in the first zone, this will be carried into the central zone and will not be editable.   If we then increase the number of bars in zone 1 to 4 x H16, this value will now be carried into the design of the bottom bars for the central panel.   If we wanted

I cannot launch Tedds - Error 3 or Error 5 is reported within the Status page of the License Manager. How can I resolve this?

Issue Tekla Structural Designer appears to "hang" when attempting to launch.  After some delay the License Manager opens and and Error 3 or Error 5 is displayed within the Status page with the following text.  How can I resolve this? Error [3]: Failed to resolve the server host Error[5]: Cannot talk to the license server on host "HOSTNAME". Server not running?? Resolution These errors occur when using the Server (Sentinel RMS) license method and your computer (the 'client') cannot communicate with the License Server (which hosts the server license(s)).  There could be a number of reasons

Commuter licenses - Incorrect number of In Use licenses

Why does my Commuter In Use count show a number larger than the number of license we have preventing any other user from claiming a license? Background information If a server license has been commuted, restarting the Sentinel RMS License Manager service on the server (or rebooting the server) may increase the number of licenses that have been checked out, preventing any other user from claiming a license. The issue is not a corruption of the underlying license data but how the Sentinel RMS service interprets this data. The fault lies with the service in the lsrvnt.exe. Prevention In normal

I cannot activate my Tekla Tedds PAK - The message "The product activation key you have entered is not a local computer locked license product activation key" is displayed. How can I resolve this?

Question I have installed Tekla Tedds but when I try to activate my Product Activation Key (PAK) the message "The product activation key you have entered is not a local computer locked license product activation key" is displayed.  Answer If the PAK code you have received begins with "42334" or "52334" then this is a Server (network) license. This means that the license can be activated (and used) on one machine (this machine will become the 'license server'), and any other machine connected to your network can also use the license (see further below for information on how to do this). I cannot launch Tedds. "Error 25" is displayed within the License Manager. How can I resolve this?

Question When attempting to launch Tedds the License Manager launches instead, stating Error 25 within the Status page with the following text: Could not understand the message received from the License Manager on the specified host. The versions of the client and License Manager are incompatible The issue also occurs for Tedds/Tekla Portal Frame Designer/Tekla Connections Designer. Resolution The issue is occuring because the Sentinel RMS version on the client (your computer) is newer than the version on the License Server.  So, the solution to this issue is to upgrade the Tekla Structural

I cannot launch Tedds. "Error 18" is displayed within the License Manager. How can I resolve this?

Question: When attempting to launch Tedds, the License Manager is launched instead, displaying "Error 18" within the Status page. Answer: Check whether a license has been issued for the version of Tedds that you have installed - if not, you can request this from your local Trimble office If you have been issued a license for the version you have installed, ensure that this has been activated on your server If your license has been activated on your server, ensure that you have configured your licensing settings to use the correct server as shown below Go to Start > All Apps > Tekla

I cannot launch Tedds when connecting over a VPN. What changes can I make to resolve this?

Question When I try to launch Tedds when connecting across a VPN, the License Manager launches instead, displaying errors. This issue does not occur when connecting over my local network. What changes can I make to resolve this? Answer When I attempt to use Tedds across a VPN, connection issues between the server and client machines may occur, preventing Tedds from launching.  A common cause of this can be the firewall on the server and/or the client machine(s) blocking the License Service and possibly Tedds/Structural Designer due to IP packet encryption across the VPN.   Exclusions To

Since installing Tekla Tedds 2017 Windows seems to sometimes restart unexpectedly - are they connected?

We have had isolated reports, that under some specific circumstances, that after installing Tekla Tedds 2017 some Windows 7 machines are experiencing an intermittent issue whereby the machine reboots shortly after the first boot of the day. Diagnosis Unfortunately the reboot is a failure of Windows at the lowest level and therefore there is no information logged in the Event log or captured by a MiniDump. We have managed to track down the issue to be related to a Compatibility update for Windows 7 deployed by a Microsoft Update. The update creates a scheduled task which performs diagnostics

Why is my antivirus flagging the Tekla install file as containing a threat?

We have seen a few reports from users whereby some antivirus software flags the Tekla installation files as containing a threat, for example: We have processes in place to ensure our downloads do not contain threats, but sometimes antivirus programs will flag them with what is called a false positive. In order to verify that the file you have downloaded is the same file that we have distributed please check the hash of the file you have downloaded before running the downloaded file on your system. Why does my unreinforced masonry retaining wall design use a characteristic flexural strength of zero?

Question Why does my unreinforced masonry retaining wall design use a characteristic flexural strength of zero?    Answer When using the retaining wall analysis and design (EN1992/EN1997/EN1997) calculation for an unreinforced masonry wall panel calculation to EC 1992, the flexural strength of the wall is always zero (0) therefore relying on the axial load on the wall for bending resistance. The source information for the flexural strength (fxk) being zero is BS EN 1996-1-1:2005 Note 1 of clause 6.3.4 in the code which states: The flexural strength of masonry fxk1 [i.e. that parallel to the
